Expressionist Prints

Expressionism developed in about 1905 and is characterized by heightened, symbolic violent colors and exaggerated lines and imagery, with distorted subjects for emotional effect to evoke moods or ideas, and created from a subjective perspective. Expressionist paintings aim to display the artist's emotions and responses to objects or situations rather than the reality of the external world.

Some of the leading Expressionists who rejected traditional representative art in favor of an abstract style that aimed to express emotion include Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, George Grosz and Amadeo Modigliani. Today some of the best selling Expressionist prints include Farbstudie Quadrate, c. 1913 and Yellow, Red and Blue, c. 1925 by Kandinsky, The Scream by Edvard Munch and Ancient Harmony, 1925 by Paul Klee.

Many pieces of Expressionist art include a wide range of colors making them an easy addition to any room and also making it easier to change the colors and feel of a room without the need to change the artwork. If you want to boost the appeal of your space, The Van Gogh Gallery Art Store has numerous fine art Expressionist prints to choose from.
