Van Gogh Portrait Prints
Vincent Van Gogh painted a number of different subjects during his painting career but some that he is best known for are his portraits and self-portraits. Van Gogh was dependent on his brother Theo, for financial support and he saw portrait painting as an opportunity to make a living as an artist. In a letter to his brother he said,
I imagine portrait painting is the way to earn the means for greater things.
Van Gogh painted portraits of his family, his friends including doctors and patients at Saint Paul Asylum, people of the working class including a number of peasants, and models he did not have the money to pay.
