Thomas LaDuke Wall Art

Thomas LaDuke (Born 1963) was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He deploys labor-intensive and meticulous processes in the creation of his hyper-realistic sculptures and paintings. In his recent paintings which form part of an ongoing series, he applies 4 distinct layers of paint to the canvas. He applies the first 3 layers delicately using an airbrush, depicting the screen of a television capturing scenes of his studio as they are reflected in the glass; he also captures glimpses of films that play on the screen. In his last layer, the fourth layer, he uses an apparently haphazard, jarring and thick application of oil paint, producing the effect of 2 separate paintings merging on the same canvas.

He has displayed at New Work, CRG Gallery, New York, Candles and Lasers, Kohn Gallery, Los Angeles, CRG Gallery at UNTITLED, San Francisco, CRG Gallery at EXPO CHICAGO, CRG Gallery at Art Basel in Miami Beach, Kohn Gallery at Art Basel in Miami Beach, and CRG Gallery at Expo Chicago. He uses delicate materials making his sculptress to replicate objects as seen in the 2010 Flemish Veil, where he recreated the cracks in a painting using arm hair and eyelashes. LaDuke received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1991 from the California State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1994 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since 2001 he has had four solo exhibitions, all at the Angles Gallery in Los Angeles. His art is unique and easily recognizable.
