Ellen Fisher Wall Art

Ellen Fisher (Born 1847 – Died 1911) was known for her watercolor foliage and floral still lifes. She was primarily a self-taught artist - although she learned mostly from her younger brother, Thayer Abbott, who studied at the National Academy of Design and the Brooklyn Art School. Ellen was born in Boston, Massachusetts but moved to Brooklyn, New York as a child with her father who was a doctor. In 1869, she married Thornton Edward Fisher whom she met in Brooklyn, New York. Ellen had a passion for art from a very young age and always spent her time doing art while surrounded by the works of other artists whom she admired. This passion never left her. She continued with her artwork and when she came of age and produced quite a number of pieces of art that she exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association, and in 5 exhibitions of the National Academy of Design.

Her work was shown at the Pennsylvania Academy in 1885. She was very bold when it came to the use of colors and texture and could not take any detail for granted. She could even pick the little details that other artists could easily ignore or fail to notice. Her keenness to detail earned her a lot of admiration from many viewers since it made her art to look more realistic. Due to the quality of her work, she was awarded a contract by the Prang Company for all of the works she did from 1884 to 1887.
