Maryam Amiryani Art Prints

Maryam Amiryani was born in Shiraz, Iran in 1967. Her works are inspired by her childhood memories of old Iranian textiles, which were often frayed and threadbare until a ghostly silhouette of the floral motif remained. She creates these works by abrading the pictures between successive layers of oil paint. Maryam became interested in how paint, as a material, wears away with time, after having seen the Villa Livia frescos in Rome. The black background of these paintings was inspired by an evening she spent in Mexico watching fireworks above the ocean- explosions of color in an inky sky. Maryam currently lives in Texas and is represented by George Billis Gallery.
