Campbell Laird Wall Art

Campbell Laird was born and raised in Hobart, Tasmania. She played with a successful rock band before making a career in art. He extensively toured through Australia, Europe, and the US and this led to extreme exhaustion. So he retired from the high life and settled in New York City where he was creating award winning imagery for editorial, advertising and corporate clients throughout the world. He lived in New York City for more than 20 years. In 2005, he moved to Venice, California for a beautiful new studio and the light, the air, and the sea. Laird is inspired by organic shapes and elements, such as a tree branch, the Tasmanian bush, a mass of rocks or waves trailing from a boat. He takes responsibility for preserving these natural elements that inspire his artwork. His work explores the structural relationships between texture, line, color and shape. He works with environmentally friendly water based archival pigments that do not pollute the environment.

To Laird a blank sheet of paper is always the genesis, and each new element suggests the next; in this way, he develops an image slowly over time into something unique and complete. His ultimate aim is to create meditative works that are deceptively simple, and that fit naturally into modern environments. This Tasmanian artist has been experimenting with ink jet printers since 1993. He works with large format digital printers and readily available simple vector software. He pushes these machines to their limits in order to create attractive new compositions alive with distinctive colors and textures.
