As a young child Wesley Dallas Merritt showed great talent and passion for drawing while growing up in central Indiana. He studied art at the Joe Kubert School of Art in Dover, New Jersey in pursuit of his passion. After his graduation, he worked for several years as a concept artist, and developed an affinity for watercolor and decided to completely immerse himself into painting. As an artist, his goal is to capture the emotion and beauty of the human figure. He paints the smallest details and subtle folds that bend in shadows and light. A fine line of shadow and light characterizes his detailed crisply subjects. Merritt’s work has gained recognition in local, regional and national exhibitions and can be found in many corporate and private collections around the world in many finishing options. The artist works out of his studio in Zionsville Indiana. He welcomes the opportunity to paint subject(s) of his clients’ choice and he accepts commissions.
Merritt has received many awards, some of which are “Best of Show” Riley Days Art Festival, “People's Choice” National Exhibition, California Watercolor Association, “second Place” at Inman Art Festival in Atlanta, Georgia, “People's Choice Award” Spring 2009 Central Indiana Artist Competition, “3rd place” Merit Award Indiana State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition, “Award Winner” at Vero Beach Art Vero Beach, Florida, and many others. Merritt works in mixed media and usually selects the material for particular projects to ensure that his clients get the best. His style is bold and he is very careful when it comes to the choice of subject matter; he ensures that he chooses something that appeal to a larger population of people.
