Willow Bascom Wall Art

Willow Bascom grew up in Panama and Saudi Arabia. She became a huge fan of tribal art due to her early introduction to varying cultures. Her father was a pilot on sea vessels. Later in life, Willow was struck with lupus, and she started drawing when it lessened. Her love for indigenous art was fed by her childhood travels around the world. It was on that foundation that she allowed the influence of indigenous styles from around the world to inform her unique perspective. A self-trained artist, the basis of her distinctive style is a fabric art of the Kuna people of Panama called the mola. In 2010, the diversity of her style was showcased in her book titled Paisley Pig and Friends: A Multicultural ABC, published by Publishing Works. Willow’s work has been showcased in art galleries in Maine, Vermont and Connecticut.

Willow produces large and small prints, and several lines of bookmarks, t-shirts, and Holy Day cards. The art t-shirts, prints, and seasonal cards are available online. Her work called “Peace Dragons” was featured in The Hartford Courant newspaper in 2008. Willow sells her Vermont Critters t-shirts at select western Massachusetts and Vermont gift shops; and sells her bookmarks and Calvin Coolidge t-shirts exclusively at the Calvin Coolidge Historic Site in Plymouth Notch. She has also developed removable children’s wall art and room trim. Willow has consistently garnered rave reviews for her use of design and color. She is also the author of Paisley, Pig and Friends, a nonfiction children’s book regarding geography, art, and culture.
