Skadi Engeln Wall Art

Skadi Engeln (Born 1966) was born in the Aachen, a German town. From 1990 to 1995 she studied sculpture at Arts College in Ottersberg with Robert van de Laar. She also studied painting with Hermanus Westendorp and Michael Kohr. Since 1995, Skadi has been working as a freelance artist and se has presented her works at many group and solo shows. Since 2008, she has been a member of the Association of Fine Artists (BBK) in Berlin, where she works and lives. Her paintings are fascinating because they are unambiguous and clear. Her images are like open rooms that don't need justification by trends but breath independently the history or the tradition of arts. Her paintings manifest her awareness of her own artistic position. Since 2001, she’s been especially interested in landscape painting (abstract).

In her current works, landscapes appear as if they have been hidden from the viewer by a veil or a curtain, disturbed, interwoven with stripes or lines. The veil or curtain creates a distance between observer and landscape. They could be scenes as observed from a train, with mirror images at the window – and with transmitters and masts interrupting the view rhythmically. Since 2016, she has been including men in her work and artistically examines a possible blend of figure and landscape, of the human beings and the world. The meaning of landscape has been re-designated and land now has a soul of its own. In her artwork, landscape is now turned into an actual setting for human work and life.
