Gregory Alexander Wall Art

Artist Gregory Alexander has exhibited in many Australian galleries, in London and Amsterdam, as well as at the Athena Art Awards at the Barbican, London; the Bankside Gallery, Royal Watercolor Show, London and the World of Watercolors, Park Lane Hotel, London. His works are held in numerous private and public collections throughout the world, including at the ANZ bank, the Queen's collection and the British Museum, to mention just but a few. In 1984, Alexander was awarded a bursary by the Elizabeth Greenfield Foundation and another in 1986. He won "The Independent", the Critics' Prize. His urban landscapes have been painted on site from observation. This he considers as a subjective activity that produces awareness of being in a place.

The oils and watercolors that have been painted around and near Port Phillip Bay, are closer to his heart as he gladly reminisces being by the English coastline where he grew up with his family. His working process lies in a fundamental faithfulness to painting and drawing from life. Alexander is fascinated with exotic settings and has travelled a lot. He became an associate of the Royal Watercolor Society and was one of the youngest when he joined. He’s now a full member. The delicacy of mark and detail of his work as well as choice of color reveal the experience of being in these places as they are drawn in through the observational eye of the painter. His postcards are part of a project that he started in 1998 and is an interesting take on the once practiced custom of sending a postcard from one’s travels.
