Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot Wall Art

Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot (Born 1796) was born in Paris in a house at 125 Rue du Bac. He was a portrait and landscape painter from France. He was also a printmaker in etching. Corot is an important figure in landscape painting and his immeasurable output references simultaneously the Neo-Classical tradition and anticipates the Impressionism’s plein-air innovations. Throughout his life Corot never felt the want of money, as his parents ran their businesses well and made good investments. After his parents married, they bought a millinery shop where his mother had worked and his father gave up his career - his father was a wigmaker - to run the business side of the shop. Corot was the second of 3 children born to the family, who lived above their shop during those years. He received a scholarship to study, but because he was having academic difficulties, he left and entered a boarding school. Corot was not a brilliant student, and throughout his entire school career he did not get any nomination for a prize, not even for the drawing classes.

Before 1815 Corot showed no interest, talent or inclination toward art. By then he lived with a family whose patriarch was a friend of his father and who spent much time with him on nature walks. It was during those days that Corot made his first paintings after nature. At nineteen, Corot was still childish quite awkward and shy. However, emotionally, he was a well-behaved and an affectionate son. Once he became an artist, he produced beautiful art that’s sought after to date.
