Jan Panico Wall Art

Jan Panico is both a cat fancier and an artist. She gives the term ‘cat lady’ a whole new meaning. Jan found what later became both a passion and a life’s work as a young child. She says that the path leading up to her career was paved early in her life. The first childhood memory she has is of her first set of finger paints. She got hooked and has been involved in artistic endeavors ever since. After studying life drawing in Paris, and fine art and interior design in school, she took a job at Tiffany & Co. in New York City, in the Display Department, followed by works for several other major retailers. In 1985 Jan moved to Colorado together with her husband, where she worked doing displays in a local gift shop on part-time basis. The owners of the shop had found their own success in a publishing business, with their own line of calendars and cards.

They encouraged her to do the same and she took up the challenge. In 1992 Jan went to the National Stationery Show in New York with her first ten cards and she named her company “Fat Cat Publishing.” As the company took off, she found that running the business was taking too much of her painting time’ it was painting that she liked most and it’s what she was good at. So she sold the company to a family friend and embarked on serious painting. In her spare time, she does commissions on screens, big canvases, murals and furniture.
